I need to express myself. To show up in the world.
Share what’s present for me, and feel a response from people with whom it resonates.
And I figured that starting a personal blog could be a good option.
I tried using personal pages on Social Media (Facebook and Instagram). But none of those actually worked for me for many reasons.
1. I don’t like limitations in the tools format. Either word count, or necessity to have pictures, or disappearing stories, or the limit of the video length. Every tool has its limitations and format requirements, but I want to be flexible with the format and use what works for me at every given moment.
2. I want to keep my personal social media pages free of content curation, and want them to be whatever they are without overthinking it. However, I want a place for more thoughtful self-expression. A place where pictures, videos, and texts could be published, sorted, and stored, they would be searchable by me and others.
3. I don’t like the “push” model of social media. People who want to read me will find my blog, and maybe even subscribe. People who don’t want to - perfect! My blog with all the self-expression in it will never bother them. I don’t like information pressure that goes from social media on me, and I don’t want to create it for others.
4. I don’t like the behaviors social media stimulates in me, like reacting to all likes, constantly monitoring the amount of views of my stories. I don’t want it, but it is so hard to resist, especially given that the life of the content is so short (even if it doesn’t disappear, it goes down in the feed and is lost and forgotten).
This blog is for me. I don’t have any goals, content, or monetization plans.
And if anything I share resonates with you, I will be happy to hear from you! Get feedback, read your thoughts, and continue the conversation.
